1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using WindPulse (the "App") or the WindPulse web interface, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.
These Terms apply to all users of WindPulse, including users who access the App without an account.
2. Description of Service
WindPulse is a wind forecast app designed for kitesurfers. It provides access to:
- Hourly wind forecasts derived from third-party meteorological models (Open-Meteo, KNMI)
- Live wind readings from nearby weather stations
- Webcam feeds for visual spot checks (via Windy)
- Personal spot saving, session logging, and wind alerts
- Crew features including shared session planning and rankings
WindPulse is an informational tool only and is not a safety device. It is not intended to replace professional weather services, certified instructors, or sound personal judgment before entering the water.
3. User Accounts
An account is optional. Core forecast features are available without signing in. Creating an account unlocks saved spots, session logging, wind alerts, and crew features.
Accounts are created via email one-time password (OTP) — no password is stored. You are responsible for keeping access to your email secure. Notify us at privacy@windpulse.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. Accounts must not be shared between multiple people.
4. User Content
WindPulse allows you to create and share content including spot tips, crew messages, and session plans ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content.
By submitting User Content, you grant WindPulse a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and display that content to you and, where applicable, to other members of your crew.
You agree not to post User Content that is:
- False, misleading, or dangerous (e.g. fabricated spot conditions that could put others at risk)
- Abusive, harassing, or offensive toward other users
- Spam, advertising, or promotional material
- In violation of any applicable law
WindPulse reserves the right to remove User Content that violates these Terms.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree to use WindPulse only for its intended purpose and in compliance with applicable laws. You must not:
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or scrape the App or its API
- Automate requests to WindPulse servers in a way that disrupts service for other users
- Use the App to distribute malware or engage in phishing
- Impersonate other users or create fake accounts
- Circumvent any access controls or security measures
6. Disclaimer
Safety Warning
WindPulse provides weather forecasts for informational purposes only. Wind and weather conditions can change rapidly and may differ significantly from forecast values at your specific location. Users are solely responsible for their own safety. Always check local conditions before going out, follow the advice of qualified instructors, and never kite beyond your ability level.
No Warranty
The App and all forecast data are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. WindPulse does not warrant that forecasts are accurate, complete, current, or suitable for any particular purpose. Forecast data is sourced from third parties (Open-Meteo, KNMI) and WindPulse has no control over its accuracy.
Service Availability
WindPulse is a small indie project. Continuous, uninterrupted availability of the service is not guaranteed. Scheduled or unscheduled downtime may occur without notice.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, WindPulse and its developer shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the App, including but not limited to:
- Personal injury or property damage resulting from decisions made based on forecast data
- Loss of data or inability to access the service
- Any damages resulting from inaccurate or delayed weather information
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities. In such jurisdictions, these limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
8. Third-Party Services
WindPulse integrates with the following third-party services. Your use of WindPulse constitutes acknowledgement that these services are involved in delivering certain features.
Open-Meteo
Provides hourly wind forecasts from global weather models (ECMWF, GFS, ICON). Open-source and free to use. — open-meteo.com/en/terms
KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute)
Provides real-time measured wind data from Dutch weather stations. A Dutch government institute. — knmi.nl
Expo Push Notification Service
Delivers push notifications to your device for wind alerts and crew updates. — expo.dev/privacy
Supabase
Provides database and authentication infrastructure. Your account data, saved spots, and sessions are stored on Supabase servers. — supabase.com/terms
Windy Webcams
Spot webcam feeds are embedded from Windy. Viewing webcams is subject to Windy's terms of service. — windy.com/terms
WindPulse is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content provided by these third-party services.
9. Modifications to Terms
WindPulse reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. When changes are made, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated. For material changes, users with accounts will be notified via push notification or in-app message.
Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
